Marrying the best of nature and comfort, Camp Canoe is stationed on a beautiful peak of the Boschendal wine estate, in Franschhoek, South Africa. On the slopes of the Simonsberg, seven luxury tents are generously spaced for ultimate privacy and provide glorious views of the vineyards below.
The interiors are the work of Megan Bond and Rotem Shachar from MR. Design Studio. Camp Canoe owner, Amy Kropman, wanted to create a space for guests to switch off, unwind and reconnect with nature. Her brief was simply “go wild”. With creative freedom to develop the brand and aesthetic of the retreat, MR. put their artistic talent into everything from the scout-inspired badges on each tent to the quilted “walls” of the bedrooms and the peg board panels in the kitchenettes. The design is a nod to Wes Anderson and brings to life all the joys of a camp experience.
In the main tent, where groups can gather for dinner clubs and conversation, the simplicity of the space meant that every element was crucial. MR. chose our Abbey Chairs in a natural timber finish to complement the wood tones and accent walls in the room. Function and durability was their biggest consideration, but as aesthetes who appreciate beautiful objects, style could not be overlooked. The design and shape of our Abbey Chairs fitted the sensibility of the space perfectly and they tuck in seamlessly under the 14-seater table.
